About Sir Ranulph Fiennes

Explorer, adventurer and bestselling author Sir Ranulph Fiennes is widely regarded as one of the greatest explorers of modern times. Named “The World’s Greatest Living Explorer” by the Guinness Book of Records, he has spent more than four decades leading pioneering expeditions to some of the most remote and dangerous places on Earth.

After serving with the Royal Scots Greys and later the SAS, where he became the youngest Captain in the British Army, Sir Ranulph began his exploration career in 1969 leading the British Expedition on the White Nile. Since then, he has led more than 20 major expeditions, including the Transglobe Expedition — the first surface circumnavigation of the Earth via both poles — an achievement that remains unmatched.

Among his many record-breaking feats, Sir Ranulph became the first person to cross both polar ice caps and climb Mount Everest. In 1993, he and Dr Mike Stroud completed the first entirely unsupported crossing of the Antarctic continent, the longest unsupported polar journey in history. In 2003, just months after suffering a heart attack and undergoing double bypass surgery, he completed seven marathons in seven days on seven continents.

His expeditions and endurance challenges have raised millions for charities including Marie Curie and the British Heart Foundation, earning him an OBE for Human Endeavour and Charitable Services. In 2010, he was named the UK’s top celebrity fundraiser by JustGiving.

Alongside his exploration work, Sir Ranulph is a prolific author, having written more than 20 books including The Feather Men, Captain Scott and My Heroes. His speeches combine extraordinary stories of survival and adventure with practical lessons on leadership, determination, planning, teamwork and resilience.

Known for his self-deprecating humour and honest storytelling, Sir Ranulph captivates audiences with firsthand accounts of pushing beyond perceived limits and overcoming seemingly impossible challenges. His talks continue to inspire organisations and audiences around the world to think bigger, persevere under pressure and embrace adversity as part of achievement.
