Sally Kettle speaks and writes about her adventures at sea. The first woman to row the Atlantic Ocean twice from East to West, Sally tells of rough seas, wild storms, harsh living and encounters with sharks. It is her experiences of people, though, that provide illumination, inspiration and insight.
Having set out to row an ocean with her partner – Marcus, a strapping six-footer - she wound up making the Atlantic crossing with her mother – Sarah, a diminutive gardener. Together they became the first mother and daughter crew to make any ocean crossing by rowing boat. Eighteen months later Sally set out to break more records as the skipper of first women’s four to cross an ocean before tragedy struck and her crew struggled for survival in the harshest Atlantic storm conditions ever recorded.
Despite not making front-page news, Sally’s leadership secured all of the project finance required to cross oceans through individual and corporate sponsorship and also raised over £300,000 for charity.
As relevant to corporate teams and community groups alike, the lessons from Sally’s adventures are about life and relationships. How people cope with everyday challenges in ever changing circumstances and how people do the funniest things.
With over five years’ speaking experience Sally she has a natural, buoyant and engaging presence, which leaves her audiences uplifted, amazed and inspired.
Sally’s experiences have been captured and published in the book Sally’s Odd at Sea.
TESTIMONIALS
Sally’s presentation was extremely well received. Quite a few of the students, who were all Sixth Formers, were heard to say that it was the best talk they had heard this year (and they have had six). I think that the girls in particular could really relate to what they heard and indeed a group of them spent quite a while chatting to Sally afterwards and asked to be kept in touch with her future projects. She arrived in such good time and was generous with her time, staying to chat afterwards
