Famous for being ‘that bloke’ who completed the London Flora Marathon in a heavy antique deep-sea diver’s suit, Lloyd Scott, MBE, is probably the best-known fundraiser in the UK. This year’s London Flora Marathon, Lloyd will be dressed as St George in a full suit of armour and he will drag a huge (friendly-looking) dragon around the 26.2 mile course. More difficult than his walk in the dive suit, this marathon task is likely to take eight days! Lloyd will raise funds and awareness for ‘Children with Leukaemia’ and the Steve Redgrave Trust. Lloyd is thrilled to have the full support of Sir Steve and the London Marathon: training has just begun for this high profile event in April 2006.
Lloyd Scott has now raised £4m for charity. Since becoming the slowest person to complete the London Marathon, Lloyd has gone on to complete the world’s first underwater marathon in Loch Ness and to ride a Penny Farthing across Australia.

His story is one of courage, humour and determination against the odds. Despite nearly losing his own battle with Leukaemia himself, Lloyd knows how important it is to be a positive role model. Lloyd encourages others to face their fears, to live life to the full and to become the best they can be.

A motivational speaker with a moving and yet frequently humorous story to tell, Lloyd has many anecdotes to draw upon when he tailors his talks. After all, he has taken part in a large number of extreme fund-raising expeditions on each of the seven continents.

Lloyd has run the Everest Marathon, a 135 mile ultra-marathon through Death Valley, the 150 mile Marathon des Sables (through the Sahara Desert), completed expeditions to the both the North & South Poles, climbed Kilimanjaro and Aconcagua, and completed a yacht race and a canoe marathon (having never sailed nor canoed before). Lloyd has also abseiled down Blackpool Tower and walked across red-hot coals! As he joked to us, his MBE should maybe stand for ‘Mad British Eccentric!’

Despite numerous operations to repair damage to his body and several hair-raising falls, Lloyd has continued his fundraising exploits. Famously, he completed London’s Flora Marathon in a 5 day and 8 hour trek in a deep-sea diver’s suit that weighed 130lb. Lloyd also completed the world’s first underwater marathon in Loch Ness and became the first person to ride a Penny Farthing across Australia from Perth to Sydney - a journey that took 50 days.

Lloyd is a very different motivational speaker who has captured the heart of the nation. During ITV’s This Is Your Life, Lloyd’s inspirational life was celebrated by figures such as Peter Shilton, Lesley Garrett, Gary Lineker and the great late Sir John Mills.

To date, Lloyd has raised over £4 million for charity and he continues to undertake an extraordinary variety of difficult fundraising ventures. The projects he devises and plans in detail illustrate his creativity; his outrageous outfits demonstrate his sense of fun!

His testimonials include:

‘Lloyd’s story so far, told in an astonishingly matter of fact way with great humour and some fantastic photos, is testament to how courage and determination can overcome life’s challenges and achieve the most amazing results. Our audience was initially stunned into silence then broke into spontaneous applause on learning the extent of Lloyd’s fundraising efforts. Lloyd's achievements are not just amazing, they're humbling, inspirational and totally awe inspiring – a tale not to be missed.’

‘You inspired and motivated our staff by speaking at two of our all-staff meetings about your London marathon exploits. Your natural style and humorous recounting of your experiences made the audience at these meetings the most energised that I have ever seen them. In particular, the sense that you are (or were!) a 'normal' person who has simply pursued a dream really did encourage individual members of staff to find their own challenges to pursue.
‘UnumProvident has benefited from your inspirational energy and experiences. I am delighted to hear that you are planning to do more after-dinner and motivational speaking in addition to the unconventional challenges which you do so well and which raise such huge sums for children with leukaemia. I am sure that many people will be drawn to hear from you on your experiences and how you constantly push yourself to do bigger and better things.’

‘Lloyd has proved an inspiration with his motivation and dedication to pushing his own physical boundaries and raising money for Children with Leukaemia. His talk at the London Outdoors Show in 2004 attracted a large crowd and proved an exceptional success. Feedback we received in the days and weeks after his talk confirmed how Lloyd inspired others to look at their own situations and help those less fortunate than themselves.’

‘Lloyd Scott, who won his own battle against leukaemia, has been a committed supporter of the National Blood Service for many years and his story cannot fail to inspire others. Lloyd has told his personal story and presented the awards at many Award Dinners for our Blood Donors. His talks are both inspiring and motivating, and succinctly articulate both his and our gratitude to our donors for their ongoing commitment. Lloyd also made a similarly motivating speech at a Blood Service Staff Conference.
‘Lloyd is very well known as a fundraiser for Children with Leukaemia raising millions of pounds through a variety of madcap and demanding exploits. He has not only displayed an incredibly high level of self-motivation but has also helped ensure that the need for blood and bone marrow donation has hit the headlines.’
