Paul won the Workworld Business Journalist of the Year Award and the Wincott Award for his reports from China, and the Diageo African Business Reporting Award for his acclaimed film on how mobile phones are changing Africa.

Before joining Newsnight, Paul was a print journalist, covering business in magazines and newspapers. He was deputy editor of Computer Weekly, a campaigning magazine whose investigative team regularly broke stories that made waves across government and industry. Paul's book, Live Working Or Die Fighting: How The Working Class Went Global, tells the story of the new 'globalised' working class, alongside the epic history of the labour movement.

Paul's specialist areas are, of course, business and the global economy but his other obsessions are music (he was once a professional musician) and football.
