Dr. Ciarán O'Keeffe's life has been, at times, diverse through his various academic accolades and professions. He currently holds a Research Associate position at Université de Toulouse. In addition Ciarán can be seen appearing on paranormal TV shows such as Living TV’s ‘Most Haunted’ and ‘Jane Goldman Investigates’ where he provides a sceptical voice and regularly battles with all manner of mediumistic communication.
Ciarán was employed at Liverpool Hope University between 1999 and 2006, where he specialised in researching and teaching three areas of psychology: Parapsychology, Investigative Psychology & Music Psychology. During this time, Ciarán gained a PhD with the title, "Assessing the content of advice given by practitioners who claim a paranormal ability".
His paranormal research has focussed on testing mediums and psychics in the laboratory and also field-work examining haunting experiences. He's also been the lead psychologist in a project examining Infrasound which incorporated a live concert at the Purcell Room in London, an exorcism 'training day' and lie detecting for the movie 'Spy Game'. Additional research has included psychic criminology and 'Christian' parapsychology. Ciarán was fortunate enough to be involved in several Research Unit ‘ghost’ projects at Hampton Court and Edinburgh Vaults, also taking time off for other spontaneous cases and unusual assignments, and returning to the Rhine Research Centre for their Summer Study Program in 2000.
Aside from academic research, he has published and presented at numerous conferences, participated in a documentary with National Geographic examining the use of psychics in criminal investigations and provided accounts of his daily activities in order to inform the lead in a recent ITV paranormal drama about the afterlife. He has also contributed to various publications such as ‘The Guardian’ and ‘BBC News’.
