Amanda Khozi Mukwashi was born in Twickenham, Middlesex, UK of Zambian parentage. As a daughter of former Diplomats, she went to scool in Italy and proceeded to study for a law degree at the University of Zambia and a postgraduate degree in International Economic Law at the University of Warwick in Coventry.
Since then, Amanda has pursued a career in International Development, working towards the reduction of poverty and combating inequalities and injustices. With over ten years experience in sustainable development, developing and implementing women and economic empowerment programmes, she has worked in developing countries as well as developed countries. She has also had the exposure of working for both the voluntary sector – local and International NGOs and has also worked for the Public sector – through Intergovernmental Organisations such as the Common market for eastern and Southern Africa.
Presently Amanda is working with Skillshare International to implement development programmes in the UK, Africa and Asia. Her strengths and key skills lay in providing strategic leadership, advocacy and networking, management of and building teams, sharing knowledge to improve performance. Amanda is a passionate and focused change advocate for the fight against inequality, injustices and poverty.
This is reflected in all spheres of her life: Amanda sits on the Board of BOND (British Overseas NGOs for Development) as a Trustee and also on the Board of Akina Mama wa Afrika (in support of the African women’s movement). In addition Amanda sits as an Advisor on WOMANKIND’s Committee for Programmes and Policy.
She looks at public speaking as a tool to share some of her experiences in the areas of leadership, women and leadership, diversity and personal empowerment for success. Amanda also looks at public speaking as a way of motivating others and providing space for individuals and organisations to engage in dialogue that enables positive change.
