Her first show with BBC1 was Trading up in the Sun which transmitted from Jan 2003. It was followed by her second big series, Trading Treasures which took a 38% share of the audience in that highly competitive slot. This was followed by another successful series Moneyspinners and then, in 2004 Car Bootie and Cash in the Attic. In 2005, Lorne is filming three new series for BBC1.
As well as presenting for BBC1, Lorne has a strong background in ITV, fronting a series of Everything Must Go in 2002, in which she valued the collectibles in a house before selling them off on the same day!
She also hosted ITV1’s Bootsale Challenge, a show which Lorne devised and presented for LWT for five series, before it was moved to ITV network.
That show was LWT’s biggest success after Blind Date, attracting 1million viewers in its Sunday evening 6.15pm regional slot. The show also goes out on Carlton TV.
Lorne has also been a regular guest expert on money matters and collectibles for ITV1’s This Morning and GMTV.
Lorne is a talented businesswoman who, alongside her husband Martin, runs the successful company Watch This Space Ltd which commissions companies to make limited editions to sell via their internet company www.thisiscollecting.com. The site gets 600,000 hits per month. In the wake of the September 11th terrorist attack, Lorne commissioned a special teddy bear with all profits being donated to the appeal fund. Sales raised a staggering £500,000 in just two weeks.
Lorne is also a reputable journalist who wrote a weekly collectibles column in the Mail on Sunday. It was not unusual for her groundbreaking articles to form the basis of front page leads for Property Section of The Sunday Times and Guardian Money. Recent scoops included the sale of Minton’s Archive Collection, the closure of Mick Fleetwood’s website online auction and the sale of Nick Faldo’s Porche. She also writes regularly for Period Living and Prima magazines.
Lorne started her television career as a general reporter on BBC Radio Norfolk and BBC East, before becoming morning producer for European Business News. She went on to establish a personal finance programme there too.
Her degree qualifications are in Communication Studies (Media).
