Steve is a popular, BBC gardening broadcaster and presents a lively, very popular, gardening show on BBC Radio Coventry & Warwickshire, which won him the prestigious Garden Writers Guild award for The Best Radio Gardening Programme. He also broadcasts each year live from Chelsea Flower Show and BBC Gardeners’ World Live. Steve has been a presenter of Central TV’s popular 'Gardening Time’ programme and won a coveted Royal Television Society Award for his Channel 4 series Growing Plants.
Steve’s approach to gardening is a very fun and informative one and his great love and enthusiasm for plants and nature has endeared him to ‘real’ gardeners for many years. He cites Geoffrey Smith and Roy Lancaster as the major influences for fuelling his passion for gardening. Steve also has the unique ability to explain things in easy to understand terms and can make even the most reluctant gardener take up a spade.
Steve can also be seen around the country at major gardening events presenting his fabulous The Greatest Gardening Tips in the World stage show which became a runaway success and subsequently the title of his best-selling gardening book. He has also written regularly for the gardening press including Amateur Gardening, Garden Answers and Garden News magazines. Steve can now be found, frequently, as a popular celebrity lecturer on cruise ships around the world. Passengers love his approachability and friendliness and he often refers to his time on the ship with them as ‘speed dating for gardeners’!
Steve’s professional gardening career started 30 years ago when, at 16, he was the youngest ever associate member of the National Vegetable Research Station - now Horticultural Research International (HRI). After training as a horticulturalist and becoming a soil scientist there for a number of years, Steve went on to run his own very successful landscape and garden design company – Country Gardens - for 16 years.
Steve was born and still lives in the beautiful, historic market town of Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire with his partner, Steph. Here he puts into practice his love of gardening – a hobby that became his vocation all those years ago. He has three lovely children, a gorgeous little granddaughter, five cats and six chickens!
In addition to gardening presentation, Steve is also a brilliant and highly professional orator and able to efficiently host any event.
Steve offers a range of interesting and exciting talks for events and cruises:
