Austin hasn’t got the 100 caps for England, he isn’t going to be remembered as the greatest ever rugby player but…………….

He has got buckets of personality, is far more interested in life outside of rugby and has loads of 'get up and go' about him. His speciality is rubbing people up the wrong way - all in a light-hearted way of course - he is just sometimes 'mis-understood'!!

His playing days came to a close at the end of the 2006 season and so he is ideally placed for the after-dinner speaking circuit, as he is well-known for his rugby playing as well as being one of a very few sportsman with a genuinely interesting and intriguing personality.

One of the most experienced players for Leicester Tigers, with over 50 international caps for England and over 200 appearances for Leicester.

After 10 seasons with the club, Austin has played virtually every position behind the scrum, and has tasted success in domestic as well as European competitions being in the squad that won four consecutive Premiership titles.

Educated at St Anselm's College, Birkenhead and at Leeds Metropolitan University, Austin represented England at U21 and A level, as well as England Sevens whilst playing for Orrell.

After moving to Leicester he made his senior England debut in Ireland in 1997 and was subsequently chosen for the British Lions tour to South Africa later that year where he played in seven matches including the last two tests. He has now represented England in 5 Five/Six Nations tournaments and was a key figure in the 1999 World Cup. He was selected for his second British Lions tours, to Australia in 2001. He was also part of the England squad that won the 2003 World Cup.

Off the field, Austin has carved himself a career in the media, with his knowledgeable and forthright opinions on the game, well respected by fans and professionals alike. Austin is a regular contributor to Rugby Special and the Six Nations and Autumn International coverage on the BBC.

In addition Austin has regularly appeared on various sporting shows including Sky Sports Soccer AM, and BBC’s Question of Sport and Superstars.

Presently Austin writes a regular column for the Daily Mirror covering all the Rugby Internationals.

Previously Austin released a successful DVD “Austin Healey’s Rugby Nightmares” which was well received following the World Cup success.
Austin Healey is a former Leicester & England Rugby player straight out of the Phil Tufnell mould of ‘cheeky chappy’ sportsman.
