After 20 years in television, Bill has a unique insight into the intriguing world of broadcasting – and a rich store of amusing and interesting tales to match.

A graduate of Edinburgh University and the Centre for Journalism Studies in Cardiff, Bill began his career as a reporter on the streets of Glasgow with Radio Clyde. He later freelanced for five years in New York before joining the BBC, which has been his professional home ever since.

As a BBC correspondent, Bill has reported from more than 30 countries, including a four year stint in Washington. He’s covered pretty much everything – from presidential elections to revolutions, Cuba to Chernobyl, hurricanes to Hollywood. However, his favourite story is the feature he made about werewolves in Haiti…and living to tell the tale.

More famously, Bill was a contestant on the third series of “Strictly Come Dancing.” His unique “torn-ligament” tango and good natured sparring with the judges were highlights of this hugely popular programme. Other challenges have included a sleep deprivation experiment for the One show, and winning £150,000 for charity on Who Wants to Be A Millionaire, with his on-air partner, Sian Williams. He’s also survived the spotlight of the famous black leather chair on Celebrity Mastermind, and travelled around the globe for the BBC1 series Around the World in 80 Days.

In his spare time, Bill enjoys the company (and honey) of several hives of bees and has written a book about the delights and perils of apiculture in his book “The Bad Beekeepers Club”. He‘s also, for his sins, a keen supporter Wycombe Wanderers FC.

Bill Turnbull is presenter of BBC Breakfast, Britain’s favourite morning TV show. He’s been waking up the country from the sofa for seven years, helping it to win three TRIC Awards for Best Daytime Programme and take the No 1 spot in the ratings. Previously, he was a stalwart presence on the BBC’s News 24 and Radio Five Live. He’s also presented the One and Six O’Clock News.
