Quentin is really is no ordinary pilot and his CV is long and illustrious. As the former world
helicopter champion of the year he is perhaps better known in circles as the first person to circumnavigate the globe in a piston engine helicopter. He has flown to both the North and South Poles and has twice circumnavigated the globe. He's also one of only a small number to have survived ditching an aircraft in the South Atlantic. He’s been held hostage by Filipino rebels and was nearly incarcerated in a Bangladeshi prison for straying into a military zone. He only got out this last scrape because he was mistaken by his potential captures as the King of Calcutta.
As an advanced CAA instructor with over 10,000 hours at the controls he is recognised by many as being one of the best Helicopter Instructors in the world. His pupils have included heads of industry, oligarchs, films stars and many, many
hundreds of happy students.
Through his many adventures Q has learnt innumerable lessons about how to react in high pressure situations, understanding what makes people tick in order to get the best out of them and being able to assess a situation to make the most prudent and safe decision.
As a natural speaker he is able to convey these lessons in a relaxed and informal manner bringing both humour and a human element to his tales. Whether he is in front of an executive board, an international sports team or a company’s middle management his experiences from the edge provide rich fodder that can be translated into business and everyday life.

Quentin Smith, AKA Captain Q is a helicopter pilot of extreme excellence. He has done some of his most high profile work whilst filming for Top Gear and has been involved in numerous features for the show, including the now legendary tests for the Ferrari F458 and Buccati Veyron v the Euro Fighter. However like The Stig, he is the unsung hero who’s face is never shown.
